UMTS radio network multiparameter control
نویسندگان
چکیده
Five key UMTS radio network parameters are simultaneously optimized with an automatic control method. The parameters relate to admission control, power control, handover control, and coverage. The optimization is guided by heuristic expert-defined rules, which apply specific trade-off policies and statistics of poor quality calls, blocking rates, power and interference levels, and terminal measurements to qualify the parameter values. The method was validated using a dynamic WCDMA system simulator with a deployment of 17 cells in Helsinki city center. The same parameter value was applied in each cell as the network formed of a uniform cell structure. The method was shown to produce convergence of parameters and stable operation. The obtained results showed that the method improved overall network performance in comparison to fixed planned default values. The capacity of network was improved close to 20% with slightly decreased but still acceptable quality of calls. Common radio resource management for WLAN-UMTS integration at radio access level
WLAN-UMTS integration in the UMTS-based approach can be performed either at the UMTS Core Network (CN) or Radio Access Network (UTRAN). Both interworking solutions provide the operator with additional license-free bandwidth and promise good handover performance. Integration at the radio access level has the advantage that the UMTS core network protocols remain unaffected and the interworking ar...
متن کاملAn adaptive call admission control scheme with load balancing for QoS enhancement in RoF based converged UMTS /
As universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) and wireless local area network (WLAN) have complementary characteristics, convergence of UMTS and WLAN offer seamless wireless access service to users. In a converged UMTS/WLAN enhancing quality of service (QoS) for different services require call admission control and load balancing. This paper analyses the performance of wideband power bas...
متن کاملOn the Applicability of “pgmcc” to UMTS Multicast
In this paper, we investigate the applicability of the Pragmatic General Multicast Congestion Control (pgmcc) scheme to the multicast data delivery over Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) networks. We show that the pgmcc scheme cannot support the degradation of the radio channels in the UMTS Terrestrial Radio-Access Network (UTRAN). Our major contribution is that the legacy schem...
متن کاملNS-2 enhancements for detailed HSDPA simulations
The Enhanced UMTS Radio Access Network Extensions (EURANE) provided UMTS and HSDPA support in the Network Simulator (NS-2). The main components of EURANE include the Radio Link Control (RLC) layer with the Acknowledged and Unacknowledged Modes, MAC layer for the main UMTS and HSDPA transport channels and a physical-layer simulation tool for simulating the fast channel variations in HSDPA. Altho...

This paper presents a system level simulator that has been developed with OPNET in order to evaluate the behavior of different Radio Resource Management (RRM) strategies in UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) for 3rd Generation (3G) mobile communications under multiuser, multiservice and multicellular scenarios. The simulator includes models for the User Equipment, Base Station an...
